Problems faced by Airtel customers

Airtel is the number one mobile phone service provider in the country. But, as a customer who has been using the service for more than 3 years I’d like to suggest some changes which if considered will be a great help to the 12 crore or so subscribers in India.
1. One of the biggest disappointments has been your GPRS service, which is quite slow (slower than most other service providers). At times the GPRS/EDGE connectivity is unavailable.
2. The activation of GPRS at times takes almost 48 hours, which is extremely long and mostly by the time you activate the service the need for ‘Mobile internet’ will be almost over.
3. When a call is made to a phone in which a ‘Hello Tune’ is activated, the first 5 seconds are dedicated for an ad which says “press *9 to copy this tune”. If the person attends the call in less than 5 seconds the purpose of the ‘Hello tune’ is not served.
4. On recharges like that of Rs.50 instead of giving the correct amount of talktime a new setup of giving SMSs has been started. This isn’t a good method to make people use the SMS service. In fact, for those people (especially old people) who do not use the service, it is a waste of money.
5. Try to limit the number of ‘ad calls’ that are made to a number in one day to 1. At times it can be quite irritating. And stop calling again, once a call was rejected in that day.
6. Most of the services you provide are unknown to the common man. Only those who use mobile phones extensively can understand many of your offers.
7. Many a time, the customers have to know about new services from friends or family. They are not properly advertised. Eg: the 100 SMS a day service.
8. Only major cities and towns are provided with EDGE facilities. Most of rural India still has only the GPRS facility. If this is not discrimination, then what is it? Since you are deducting the same charges for both GPRS and EDGE users.
9. Even in reasonably developed states like Kerala, there are many villages where Airtel’s service is not available. For the No.1 service provider, this is an embarrassing setback.
10. Compared to many other service providers, Airtel uses very little of newspaper space for advertisement.
11. There are very little offers for students who constitute a large percentage of your customers.
These are a few suggestions and readers are expected to comment.

  1. Airtel has solved the problem of GPRS activation now. Now, it gets activated in seconds.
